Wangechi is one happy woman after a case that had been in court for years as finally been ruled on her favor after four-long years.

Wangechi real name Wangechi Waweru went to court as represented by Omuodo Ogutu Advocates to fight for her constitutional rights in regards to her photos being used to run a campaign advertisement back in 2016.

In a video that the rapper shared on August 31, 2016, Wangechi claimed the conglomerate, international mobile company that ran the advert on Facebook and Instagram in June 2016 to advertise one of their phones did that without exclusive permission from her and/or her team.

“I’m not one to raise my voice online but it reaches a moment where you have to fight for your hard work and what you believe in.

In early June Tecno Kenya ran an ad campaign around a new phone and used my image for that campaign.” Wangechi said.

“They used my image and likeness in the form of an advertisement which came across as an endorsement of the product.

They did not seek my approval or consent for it neither did they pay for the use of my image and likeness, yet after 8 weeks of legal conversation, they went silent and deleted all images and videos associated with me.

As an artist our image and likeness is our source of livelihood, it is our bread and butter. It is not okay to misuse and take away from us when we work so hard to build ourselves.”

Since going public four years ago, Wangechi took to social media to announce that the court has ruled in her favor after a 4-year-long fight.

“4 years ago my constitutional rights to privacy were infringed.” Wangechi said in part on Twitter on September 17, 2020, adding, “Today the courts ruled in my favor and proved I have a right to control how my image & likeness is used publicly.”

Being totally contented with the ruling the courts settled on, Wangechi expressed her gratitude to her legal team, Omuodo Ogutu Advocates that were fighting for her for the past 4 years on the aforementioned case.
