The real reason why Harmonize opted to terminate his 15-year contract with Wasafi

Rajab Abdul Kahali, popularly known as Harmonize, was the first artiste to be signed by Wasafi records about four years ago when the label was in its infancy stage.

The ‘Kwangaru’ hitmaker has however become the second artiste to quit Diamond Platnumz’s WCB after Rich Mavoko made a similar move in 2018.

Mavoko quit Diamond’s record label barely two years into his 10-year contract, he accused WCB of fleecing him through the contract he signed with them.

Rich Mavoko signed a contract with WCB in June 2016, the Bongo singer was previously signed by Kenyan record label Kaka Empire.

Mavoko finally quit Diamond’s Wasafi label on 9th August 2018, his exit was so messy that Tanzania’s music regulatory body BASATA had to intervene.

Apparently, the issues that saw Rick Mavoko quit Wasafi are the same that compelled Harmonize to also terminate his contract with the label.

A source close to Harmonize, who is a former Wasafi employee, divulged to the media that the Bongo star was not happy with Wasafi because a big percentage of his earnings was going to the label.

“Harmonize is grateful for the opportunities the label has created for him to a point that he has become the second most profitable artiste in the label after Diamond Platnumz.

However, in recent times, he has been investing a lot of his money into his music brand as compared to what was promised by the label. Hence, with all these solo efforts, he doesn’t see the need to continue honoring a contract which at the end of the day takes the biggest share because of the terms. In other words, it’s a lose-lose situation for him,” said the source.
