Mumias East MP Peter Salasya only earns Ksh97,197 from a gross monthly salary of Ksh1.17 million because of the loans he is repaying.

Salasya recently shocked many people when he shared his pay slip which highlighted the many deductions made from his fat salary.

The lawmaker earns a gross monthly salary of Ksh1.17 million but after several deductions including a car loan and mortgage he is left with a meagre Ksh97,197 to take home.

Among the monthly deductions on Salasya’s salary include a car loan of  Ksh89,000 and a mortgage of Ksh563,000.

The first-time MP has since revealed the reason for buying a luxury Landcruiser V8 which has a price tag of between Ksh6.9 million to Ksh7.7million.

Salasya claimed that his villagers tell him he is a sign of hope and therefore he should lead by example.

“Wakiona nikienda na gari kubwa wanajidai kwamab huyu ni mheshimiwa wetu, ukienda na gari dogo unawapa aibu na unajua wewe kama mheshimiwa ndio kitovu cha Imani, hufai kuonesha dalili ya umasikini kwa watu wanaokutegemea.

(When they see me driving a big car, they claim that this is our honorable man, if you go with a small car, you embarrass them and you know that you, as an honorable man, are the center of faith, you should not show signs of poverty to people who depend on you),” Salasya said.
