Loan deductions for expensive Toyota Land Cruiser V8 make Salasya earn peanuts

Mumias East MP Peter Salasya shocked many people when he revealed that he only takes home Ksh97,197 after deductions on his fat salary.

Salasya earns a gross monthly salary of Ksh1.17 million but after several deductions including a car loan and mortgage he is left with a meagre Ksh97,197 to take home.

In his social media post in which he intended to show why he has a right to demand for development going by the Ksh337,000 that he is taxed as Pay As You Earn (PAYE), the MP’s slip showed he makes a basic salary of Ksh426,000.

The slip also showed he earns an administrative allowance of Ksh134,000 as a member f the National Assembly.

He additionally gets a house allowance of Ksh150,000, a sitting allowance of Ksh90,000, a telephone allowance of Ksh15,000 and a Vehicle Fixed Cost of Ksh356, 525. This brings his gross salary to 1,171,525.

However, after deductions, including of a car loan of  Ksh89,000 and a mortgage of Ksh563,000, Salasya got a net salary of Ksh97,197 for February 2023.

“Let me demonstrate to Hon Aaron cheruiyot ,deputy prezda Gachagua my great friend CS Murkomen that all Kenyans have shares in this country. I contribute KSh 300K plus to revenue, and the president is the only our watchman for our contributions, and its our right to ask for development,” Salasya tweeted.

The Ksh563,000 mortgage for his luxurious house and a car loan of Ksh89,000 are the monthly deductions that are making Salasya earn Ksh97,000 a month.

The Mumias East MP bought an expensive Toyota Land Cruiser V8 2016 model in November 2022 shortly after he was elected to Parliament following the August 9, 2022, general election.

Salasya’s V8 cost between Ksh6.9 million to Ksh7.7million.
