Prison Break season 6 cancelled after gay actor ‘Michael Scofield’ gets tired of playing straight character

Prison Break’s main star Wentworth Miller who plays Michael Scofield has opted out of the TV series forcing the production of season 6 to be canceled.

Prison Break premiered in 2005 with Miller and Lincoln Burrows (real Dominic Purcell) as the main characters. The TV show became fans’ favorite and aired for four years with final season 4 airing in May 2009.

The TV series’ producers came up with the movie ‘The Final Break’ in 2009 after several appeals from fans across the world.

Prison Break was once again revived in 2017 for season 5 after eight years of hiatus.

There were talks of season 6 coming, but last Sunday, November 8th Miller broke hearts when he announced he will no longer feature in Prison Break future installments including the much-awaited season 6.

Prison Break season 6 confirmed by series producer

The Prison Break star, who is gay, explained that he is done playing straight characters including his long-running role as ‘Michael Scofield’.

“I’m out. Of PB. Officially. Not bec of static on social media (although that has centered the issue). I just don’t want to play straight characters. Their stories have been told (and told). So. No more Michael. If you were a fan of the show, hoping for additional seasons… I understand this is disappointing. I’m sorry,” wrote Wentworth Miller on Instagram.

Miller came out as gay back in August 2013 after penning a letter on GLAAD’s website about how “deeply troubled” he was by the Russian government’s treatment of LGBT citizens.

Miller’s was supported by Prison Break co-stars Sara Tancredi (real name Sarah Wayne Callies) and Lincoln Burrows (real name Dominic Purcell) on his decision to quit the show.

“With gratitude for all the work we did together, & with deep love, I’m voicing my support for that choice. To all the fans, know this: the cast of prison break is a queer friendly space. we stand with – and among – our friends & family in the LGBTQ+ community with full throated support for their rights and artistic work. all the time. always,” Sarah Wayne commented on Miller’s post on IG.

Dominic Purcell ‘Lincoln Burrows’ posted a video on IG saying that he too was opting out of Prison Break in solidarity with Miller.
