ODM Senator Prof. Malachy Ekai ditches Raila Odinga for DP Ruto’s UDA party

The Orange Democratic Party has suffered a huge blow after one of their loyal Senator ditched the party to join forces with Deputy President’s United Democratic Alliance camp.

Turkana Senator, Prof Malachy Ekai speaking on Wednesday said that he decided to dump ODM for DP Ruto’s new political party that he intends to vie under its banner ahead of the upcoming 2022 presidential elections.

The renowned scholar who was elected in 2017 using the ODM party ticket after defeating the Jubilee candidate is also in support of the new bottom-up economic model that he believes will empower small traders and uplift small-scale businesses in Turkana County.

Senator Prof. Malachy Ekai’s decision comes a few days after Deputy President William Ruto hosted Turkana leaders at his official residence in Karen, Nairobi.

The leaders who showed up at the meeting were led by the Turkana Governor Josphat Nanok, Deputy Governor Lotethiro Peter, Speaker of County Assembly Ekitela Lokaale, Women Representative Joyce Emakinor, Turkana North MP Hon. Christopher Nakuleu, Turkana South MP Hon. Lomenen James, Turkana West MP Hon. Daniel Epuyo Nanok, Turkana East MP Hon. Lokiru Ali Mohammed, MCA SONGOT Ward in Turkana West constituency Leader of Majority Party County Assembly of Turkana, Hon. Lochor Bethwel, nominated MCA Dorcas Epusiye, and Speaker Turkana County Assembly, Geoffrey Kaituko.

Senator also Prof Malachy Ekai announced his Turkana gubernatorial bid.

He revealed his manifesto once elected as the second governor of Turkana county. He said that he will transform the county especially the agricultural sector. He also promised to fight poverty by utilizing the available resources.
