Amason Kingi, the Governor for Kilifi County has been officially stripped off his role as the Orange Democratic Movement Coastal County chairman after serving in that position for 9 years.

On Tuesday, August 10, 2021, Amason Kingi issued a public statement through his social media page/s saying that he’s respecting the decision from the ODM Party going further to wish the Political Party nothing but the best as it prepares for the next general elections set to be held next year August.

He’s also grateful to the Party leader Raila Odinga for believing in him and giving him a chance to work for the people in his native county of Kilifi.

“During my tenure as the Kilifi County ODM chairman, I steered the party to great success and made sure that ODM became the dominant Party in the County, a fact that was confirmed during the last general election when Kilifi became the only County in the Country to deliver a clean sweep for the ODM Party in all elective positions,” said Kingi in his official statement.

“I hope and pray that the incoming Chair and his team will match and/or break this sterling record. I wish the Party the very best not just in Kilifi County, but across the country as it prepares itself for the 2022 elections.” he went further.

Governor Amason Kingi who is serving his second term as the Governor for Kilifi was kicked out from the ODM leadership for disloyalty as termed by the party.

Speaking on a recent interaction with the media, the ODM Party leader says that he has already gotten used to people he mentored backstabbing him and treating him badly after he has helped them achieve what they wanted to achieve.

He went further to explain that Kingi has betrayed him because he has let his political power get into his head.

“Kingi is not the first [politician] to run away from ODM, neither is he is the first person to betray me. I’m used to being backstabbed. Kingi has no solutions to the problems facing the Coastal people. I’m thinking power has gone into his head,” he said.

Amason Kingi has been advocating for the Coastal Region to have a political party of its own as the country is moving towards the next general elections. The ODM Party leader isn’t a fan of what Kingi is proposing at all.

“The people in the region are tired of being treated like second-class citizens during every poll and we demand to be recognized as we have more than 1.7 million registered voters,” Kingi was quoted saying in a past rally.

Raila Odinga together with other members of the ODM party warned the coastal leaders against the formation of any regional party stressing that it’s a threat to national unity, which is something that he’s been advocating for in the past.

Governor Amason Kingi has already been replaced by Teddy Mwambire who is the Ganze Member of Parliament.
