The family of Samuel Nzioki Ndunda, the late partner of Manzi Wa Kibera, has officially confirmed his passing, addressing earlier doubts surrounding the news.

Speaking to local media outlets on April 24, 2024, both the family and Manzi Wa Kibera herself, now referring to herself as a widow, shared insights into the circumstances of his death.

Mary, Samuel Ndunda’s daughter, provided details about her father’s health challenges, revealing that he had been struggling with chest problems that he would occasionally mention.

She recounted receiving phone calls informing her of his illness and then his rapid decline, with her daughter sadly arriving at his home too late.

“Nzioki was my father. Over the years I lived with him, he often complained about chest issues. I received a call about his illness, and then my daughter called me on Sunday to say he had passed away. By the time she returned to his house, he was already gone,” Mary shared.

Samuel Ndunda’s son also recounted learning about his father’s sickness and subsequent passing. He received a call late Saturday night about his father’s illness but was unable to visit due to heavy rain. The next morning, upon receiving the heartbreaking news, he and his cousin organized for their father’s body to be taken to the City Mortuary.

“I got a call Saturday night informing me of my father’s sickness. The heavy rain prevented me from visiting. The next morning, I checked my phone and received the sad news. I arrived and confirmed the truth. Together with my cousin, we arranged for him to be taken to the City Mortuary,” the son explained.

Discussing burial arrangements, Ndunda’s daughter explained that family conflicts and legal issues prevented his burial at their ancestral land. To avoid complications, they made the decision to lay him to rest at Lang’ata Cemetery.

“The family-owned land where he was supposed to be buried is currently in dispute with other family members. We decided it would be better to bury him at Lang’ata to avoid further issues,” she clarified.

Mary also appealed for financial assistance from the community to cover funeral expenses, acknowledging the family’s financial limitations. She expressed deep gratitude for any support, emphasizing her father’s kindness and generosity towards others.

“We are reaching out to anyone who can assist us. Our family is facing financial challenges. Any help would be greatly appreciated. My father was not only a good parent but also a compassionate person,” Mary appealed.

The family highlighted specific areas where support is needed, including funeral costs such as the coffin, hospital bills, transportation, and other logistical arrangements. They hope that with the community’s help, they can give Samuel Ndunda a dignified farewell.
