Nominated Senator Karen Nyamu attracted revelers’ fury after she threatened to lobby for the ban of ‘Aluta Sundays’ in all Nairobi Clubs.

Nyamu expressed her opposition to ‘Aluta Sundays’, an overnight program that always runs from Saturday Night into Sunday, claiming that it was spoiling many youths.

The UDA-nominated senator told club owners to consider her statement as a public notice as she moves to stop the 24-hour party life in Nairobi.

“Kuna kitu inaharibu vijana hapa Nairobi inaitwa Aluta. Hio fom mi ndio nitaichoma. Club owners this is your notice,” Karen Nyamu said in a statement on social media.

Nyamu’s statements elicited mixed reactions among partygoers and business people – many arguing that she is about to spoil a good thing.

Aluta Sundays – a Sunday service that kicks off at 6 am has become a popular spot for revelers around Nairobi Clubs.

The idea first originated from Loft Lounge owners before it was quickly absorbed by other Nairobi clubs.

The program takes care of reggae lovers who don’t want to go home on Sunday morning after a proper Saturday, night out.

Aluta Sundays was inspired by the Jamaican culture, which sees revelers going to clubs as early as 6 am for endless hours of reggae music.

Following the grumbling by revelers and club owners, Karen Nyamu came out to explain that she was not after spoiling businesses for people. She added that her only intention is to see clubs closed at 6 am and opened at 4 pm, not the 24-hour operation as with the case of Aluta Sundays.

“Me nishafika kwa mboka yangu. Tulisema kujituma ibaki constant. Alafu wale pilots wa Aluta kibrit tulieni captains😁😁 hatuwezi guza cashcrop ya meru. Hio ni Mungu alitupea bure😁😁 Tunataka tu club zifungwe 6am zifunguliwe 4pm,” Karen Nyamu wrote.
