Comedian Timothy Kimani popularly known as Njugush would never go beyond form four were it not for a drunkard in a matatu.

Speaking during an interview with Cleaning The Airwaves (CTA) podcast, Njugush narrated how a random drunkard he sat next to in a matatu helped him join campus.

The comedian noted that after form four he delved into acting and after eight months his father implored him to join college.

However, Njugush struggled to find the appropriate school to join as he was limited financially speaking.

“After the talk [with his father] I was like okay I’ll go. So I started going to different Universities asking about their fee structure but it was crazy! All the schools I went to they were charging Ksh100,000 plus and I didn’t tell my dad this.

“Being a first born, I’ve always had this mentality ‘aahh sitaki kusumbua mzae’ but I know if I had told him he would have found the resources to take me to school,” Njugush said.

While being stressed about the school he would join, Njugush met a drunkard in a matatu when he was from looking for the colleges where he could pursue journalism course.

“I was so depressed, I didn’t know what to do with my life. I remember I was in a matatu and I was seated next to a drunk person who kept on sluggishly leaning on me which irritated me a lot. Because at first, why are you drunk during the day?” He said.

The guy seated next to Njugush identified himself as his neighbour as he proceeded to bombard him with personal questions which angered him even more.

“He started talking and I felt like he was stressing me even more. I was just there with my papers all depressed and I’m wondering ‘inakusumbulia nini’

“So I decided I’m going to get up and switch seats, just as I was about to he said, ‘have you tried KMC?'” Njugush said before adding at the moment the only KMC he knew was Kenya Meat Commission.

Turns out, the guy knew the principal at Kenya Institute of Mass Communication (KIMC) and had ties with the school which used to take only 20 students per semester.

“Do this, nipatie number yako… and all over sudden the drunkard started making sense. I was elated, we started talking and I was like jackpot!” Njugush said.

Njugush is an alumnus of KIMC  and it was during his time there that he joined the cast of Real Housewives of Kawangware where he had his breakthrough.
