Tanzanian singer Alikiba has blamed fellow musicians for allowing Nigerians to dominate the East African music scene.

Speaking during a media interview in Tanzania, Alikiba lamented that Kenyan and Tanzanian artistes are not supporting each other in the industry.

He noted that Nigerian musicians support each other so much, claiming their unity was the reason why their music was popular across the globe.

“In general I’ll speak about what is so obvious. In order to sell music you need a crowd. Nigerians are very proud of their country and their music, that is why their music has been spreading, ” Alikiba said.

Alikiba further noted Naija artistes are always ready to help each other grow, unlike their East African counterparts who want to excel alone.

“They got their connections way back and they are are more united than us (East Africans). They support each other so much. It will take time for us to get there,” he said.

Alikiba’s sentiments echo Eric Omondi who has been pushing local musicians to fight off competition from Nigerian artistes.

Eric has rubbed several musicians the wrong way while advocating for more airtime for Kenyan music on local TV and radio stations.

The comedian insists Kenyan musicians are lazy and need to pull up their socks even as he demands local media stations to play 75% Kenyan songs.
