Joseph Haule aka Professor Jay has for the first time opened up about his kidney condition after having a brush with death in 2022.
Jay did an interview with the Clouds radio and television station in which he revealed that he was suffering from kidney failure.
The veteran rapper explained what he went through and the support he received from various stakeholders including the Tanzanian government.
Jay revealed that he started a foundation to deal with the kidney problem but also to raise awareness in the community about kidney failure.
He revealed that the kidney condition dried his accounts as he was spending Tsh5 million on a daily injection minus other costs such as dialysis.
“Watu wengi wanakufa sana kutokana na tatizo la figo. Ndio maana nikasema wakfu wangu uanze na suala la figo. Kuna sindano nilikuwa nachoma kwa siku milioni tano asubuhi na jioni, ile sindano ndio iliniamsha. Nilikuwa nachoma mara 5 kwa wiki. Kwa wiki milioni 25 na kila siku nilikuwa nachoma mara mbili, na nilichoma sindano 10 kwa hiyo ni milioni 50, hiyo ni sindano tu, bado kusafisha figo,” he said.
Professor Jay thanked President Samia Suluhu for fighting to make it possible for him to go to India for a solution to his kidney.
