Kenya as a country right now is keen in the subject of marijuana and legalizing it for medicinal purposes, this is what the late Kibra member of parliament, Ken Okoth was advocating for before his untimely demise.
He went on record to advocate for the legalization of medical marijuana saying that it will benefit both the sick and the economy saying that weed plantation has more income than that of sugarcane.
According to the late great Kibra member of Parliament, Ken Okoth believed in the legalization of Marijuana for medicinal purposes and it would help out the economy to flourish as opposed to the sugarcane farmers who are languishing in abject poverty while at the same time being terrible for the environment.
Ken Okoth who was a very respected and adored legislator in his constituent of Kibra went on record at Citizen TV’s ‘Opinion Court’ show to break down how the legalization of Marijuana will help grow the country’s economy exponentially since the United States of America has legalized it, after legalizing it, the Kenyan farmers will have to grow some quality medicinal Marijuana and export it there(USA) as a commodity, tax it and make a lot of profit in the process.
“I don’t want you to think it’s too crazy but let’s diversify, you know Obama is coming in to this country, the United States is legalizing medical Marijuana and things like that. Why can’t we, get off your hang-ups, why should our people starve, why shouldn’t we grow some quality medical Marijuana and export to the US(United States of America) where they need it? why are we farming sugar cane that is sinking our people into poverty? it’s terrible for the environment, come up with new ideas” Ken Okoth said in part on his interview with Anne Kiguta at Citizen TV’s ‘Opinion Court’ a couple of years ago.
“but it’s not legal here, so how would we grow it?” posed the question by the host of the Opinion Court show, Anne Kiguta.
“who makes the law in this country?” the late Kibra Member of Parliament, Ken Okoth answered the question in part, “what’s your problem with Marijuana?” he continued, “it is medical, it’s sold, it has a market in the United States, legalize it, and sell it properly. Why are you stifling our …the lords of poverty are the people who refuse to think well, am glad this term is fashionable, you are shocked when I tell you, get rid of the cane farming, grow Marijuana, sell it legally, tax it, raise money. Why is tobacco any better than weed?” Ken Okoth concluded.
Even at the last days of life on this earth, the late Kibra member of Parliament who touched a lot of lives, was still pro the legalization of medical Marijuana and even got a lot of the legislators behind him to back him up on the legalization of Marijuana in the country after his demise on July 29, 2019.
Ken Okoth wrote a letter last year wrote a letter to National Assembly Speaker Justin Muturi petitioning for the legalization and regulation of marijuana to ensure its safe usage across the entire country.
“The proposed Bill seeks to ensure that there is regulation for growth and safe use of marijuana and hemp including the registration of growers of growers, producers, manufacturers and users with special focus on protection of children/minors from illicit use just as we do with tobacco and alcohol, “ read the September 21, 2018 letter.
