2023 is turning out to be a very dark year for the South African music industry as musicians die albeit mostly in puzzling circumstances.

Kiernan ‘AKA’ Forbes was gunned down outside Wish Restaurant on Florida Road on February 10, 2023, alongside a friend, Tebello “Tibz” Motsoane.

Shortly after AKA died, his friend rapper Costa Titch on March 12, 2023, collapsed while performing on stage and died instantly.

Even before Costa Titch is laid to rest, news broke that celebrated Jazz singer and songwriter Gloria Bosman died on Wednesday, March 15, 2023.

Bosman died at the age of 50 after a short illness – a source confirmed the news to Sunday World on Tuesday.

Jazz legend Sipho Hotstix also confirmed the news on his social media where he paid a tribute to the singer.

Bosman was born in Soweto and was a jazz, African, rock, and gospel vocalist. She was also an accomplished producer, composer and presenter.

Bosman has shared the stage with musical legends including Hugh Masekela, Sibongile Khumalo, Moses Molelekwa, Tananas, and Sipho Mabuse.

Her five albums have all been an unmitigated success: Her debut offering, Tranquillity, earned an award for Best Newcomer as well as nominations for Best Contemporary Jazz Album and Best Female Artist at the 2001 SAMAs.

Her second album, The Many Faces Of Gloria Bosman, featured collaborations with some of the finest musicians in South Africa and has earned her nominations for both Best Southern African Artist and Most Promising Female Artist at the prestigious KORA Awards of 2001, as well as a SAMA nomination for Best Jazz Vocal Album.
