It is paramount for rules to be followed in any industry out there and there are numerous ways to action the punishment in every single industry and in the matatu industry it is somewhat unorthodox.
One matatu makanga(tout) working for City Hopper Limited was subjected to humiliation by asked to wear a tag for seven straight days as a warning to other touts for not giving out receipts upon payment by passengers. She was allegedly seen asking for a mere 500 shillings (USD 5) form her colleagues who laughed her off. She was wearing the tag at Nairobi’s KENCOM stage.
the tag read; “CITY HOPPER LIMITED. TO MY FELLOW CONDUCTORS PLEASE ALWAYS ISSUE OUR CUSTOMERS WITH TICKETS, IT IS THEIR RIGHT. DON’T BE LIKE ME!”
