Raymond Shaban Mwakyusa alias Rayvanny has revealed that he will contest for the Member of Parliament (MP) seat in Mbeya ahead of Tanzania’s general elections in 2025.

Rayvanny opened up about his political ambitions while speaking in a TikTok video.

The Bongo singer uploaded a clip on his Tiktok page where he was seen wearing a fitting black suit while being escorted to his car by bodyguards, painting an image similar to that seen in dignitaries.

One person was heard making fun of him by calling him the MP for Mbeya City, something that brought a smile to his face and decided to speak about his political ambitions.

“Mwaka elfu mbii na ishirini na ngapi unagombea ubunge wa Mbeya Mjini? (Which year will you vie for MP Mbeya city?) Someone asked Rayvanny.

“Eeh Mungu akijaalia muda wowote tu nitawania ili kuwafanyia wananchi kazi ili tuhudumie taifa,” Rayvanny alijibu kwa mbwembwe zote kama mwanasiasa stadi. (If God allows any time, I will run to work for the people so that we can serve the nation),” Rayvanny answered.

If he succeeds in his declaration, Rayvanny will be joining a long list of Bongo artistes who tried their hand in politics.

Veteran musician Professor Jay was the first popular Bongo celeb to join politics when he contested and won the Mikumi parliamentary seat in 2015. However Jay lost his seat in the 2020 general election.

In 2020 however, two more Bongo celebrities were elected to the Tanzanian parliament – Diamond Platnumz’s manager Babu Tale (MP Morogoro South-East constituency) and Mwana FA (MP Muheza constituency).
