Bongo star Raymond Shaban Mwakyusa alias Rayvanny has spoken about the cold reception he received during his music tour in Houston, USA.

Video of Rayvanny’s poorly attended gig in Houston on November 25, 2022, went viral on social media as netizens poked fun at his failed concert.

Speaking during a live session on Instagram, the singer made it clear that he is used to being ridiculed.

“Kusema kweli nimezoea hilo. Wajua Waafrika Mashariki wanapenda sana kuweka mambo mabaya (To be honest, I’m used to that. You know, East Africans really like to dwell on the negativity),” he said.

He added, “Hata nikifanya vizuri ama nijaze uwanja hawangepost hilo (Even if I do well or fill a stadium they wouldn’t post that).”

The Bongo star, however, noted that he enjoys being ridiculed because he always gets motivated to put in more effort.

“Mimi napenda nitukanwe, napenda nisemwe , napenda nichekwe. Sipendi sifa za uwongo (I like to be insulted, I like to be told, I like to be laughed at. I don’t like false praise),” said Rayvanny.

The singer was engaging his fans in a live show while resting on the bed of a large hotel in Tanzania. In his hands he was holding the Afrimma awards that he received several days ago in a ceremony held in the state of Dallas, in the United States.

Fellow artist, zuchu won her Afrimma award for the very first time where she was competing in the Best Female East Africa category.

Rayvanny who is the managing director of the Next Level Music label was happy after winning the award in the Best Male East Africa category and said that the award is for all those who believed in him in this region of East Africa.

Rayvanny said that in his life he has won many awards but that of AFRIMMA was the one that was missing and so getting it is like ending the cycle of awards on his shelf.
