Transgender is a person whose gender identity or gender expression that differs from their assigned sex. Transgender people are usually considered as outcasts in most societies across the world.

12 transgender women were arrested by police in Indonesia and forced to become men once again. Indonesia is the most populous Islamic country and as such the issue of transgender is not tolerated.

The country’s police raided several beauty salons in Aceh province and arrested transgender women. The 12 transgender women were held for three days.

During those three days the 12 transgender women were shaved, forced to wear men clothes and ‘counseled’ to start behaving like men.

“We are holding them for three days to give them counselling and coaching. It’s going well and now they are all acting like real men,” Local Police Chief, Ahmad Untung Surianata told the BBC.

The police boss said his team had carried out the raid, dubbed ‘Operation Anti Moral Illness’ after neighbors complained about the negative influence the transgender community could have on their children.
