Otile Brown decided to open up about how the industry, the Kenyan music industry has been growing at a slow pace gradually.
Acknowledging that indeed the Kenyan music scene has just started getting and receiving recognition everywhere, he opened up about a lot of stuff that usually happens behind the curtains, most of which, the general public doesn’t know anything about.
Otile Brown is among the very few Kenyan artistes together; Khaligraph Jones, Octopizzo, Masauti, Blinky Bill, Sauti Sol, Nadia Mukami, Willy Paul who are keen on making sure the Kenyan music industry reaches the next level.
Brown took to social media the other to open up about how Kenyan musicians are trying to make sure the industry looks good.
He reiterated that the struggle is not yet won and the artistes should be commended for their efforts in the music industry.
The multiple hitmakers went on to say that the artistes, most of them, comes from nothing and don’t have godmothers/godfathers in the industry to help them grow as artistes.
He went on to add that it’s actually pretty sad that a lot of artistes gets shortchanged by corporate who wants to make money off of them without being properly compensated despite the artistes effort of making sure the projects they put out is way above par and of good quality.
Otile Brown says even the government has failed the musicians in the country.
The Just in Love CEO believes it’s time for the Kenyan music scene to get the international acclamation it deserves, he says it won’t happen overnight but it’s inevitable that it’s going to happen.
Otile Brown squash beef with former Manager Dr. Eddie
This is what Otile Brown shared online before he released his latest offering that’s something we’ve never seen from the crooner.
“I think Kenyan artists should be respected… all those ‘big artists’ y’all compare us with, they had/have Godfathers who hold them down, and even now that they’ve made it, their godfathers are still putting money on their projects.
Our growth has to be slow and gradual coz we are always doing it all by ourselves, no label no investors and remember we ain’t from rich families.
We have to balance the little that we get to pay bills, take care of our families and invest it back in the business.
We’ve been failed by our government, media, and even some of the selfish stakeholders in the business eg music distributors who take advantage of artists.
Tell me why a corporate brand would take about 70% of all the revenues collected from platforms such as ring-back tones and other platforms, they’ve suck us dry.
I also see young ballas but all they want us to call you for a hang out on alcohol and women just to make them cool. that’s why you’ll never see me around them.
Before y’all speak, always know that we’re doing it by ourselves and those, who you think are better than us ‘wamebebwa’.
What they think about is how to grow in their music coz everything is sorted… With love and I’m straight btw and okay with my gradual growth.. just stop thinking and saying that we ain’t putting in enough effort!”
