Karungari Mungai, popularly known as Miss Karun, captivated Kenyans a decade ago when she shot to fame being the only lady of the now defunct hip hop group Camp Mulla.

Camp Mulla was the most sought-after breakout music group in Kenya in 2009 when they first popped onto the scene dropping hit after hit.

The music group was made up of Thee MC Africa [formerly Taio Tripper], Shappaman, Marcus and Miss Karun. The quartet was nominated for BET award at the height of their music success.

Camp Mulla however split in 2013 to everyone’s surprise, members pursued their individual careers but they ended up just being a shadow of their past.

Miss Karun has now revealed why she quit the hip hop group. Speaking during an interview with the Standard, the 25-year-old mother of one said she was just tired of fame.

Karun explained that she was only 16 when she became famous after Camp Mulla burst onto the scene. She further stressed that at the time the pressure couldn’t allow her to experiment.

“I was tired of the fame. It was stifling me. I couldn’t make any mistake. I couldn’t experiment. I couldn’t really find out who I was or who I wanted to be because of people’s eyes I was already that girl from Camp Mulla,” said Miss Karun.
