This forth coming election is bound to have many youth aspirants on the ballot papers and Augustine Kavindu is one these youth.

Augustine Kavindu who also doubles as an artiste who goes by the moniker Influx has made it obvious that he is vying for the Embakasi South Parliamentary seat under Jubilee ticket and he is determine to make and bring change in the constituency.

When speaking to Biggest Kaka, he had this to say;

Biggest Kaka: Why do you think you should be elected as the youngest MP in Embakasi, just two reasons?

Hon. Augustine Kavindu: 1. The population of youth has grown and they need effective representation.

Biggest Kaka: Ok and second

Hon. Augustine Kavindu: 2. We have been working to bring in alternative careers that the youth can take up away from the traditional streams. Being in parliament will strengthen our capabilities.

Here’s a message from Kavindu to all Kenyan, especially those in his constituency:

Distinguished guests, ladies and gentlemen, Good evening. I take this opportunity to thank the almighty God for the courage he has granted to me to run for office of the Member of Parliament for Embakasi South constituency. I am fully aware of the challenges that lie ahead and equally prepared to the task. In December 2015, we drew a working plan that was to guide us in the process. The first step was to ensure 75% of eligible voters were made aware of our candidature.

That came to pass. We tested the results in December 2016 when we send random people to strategic places within the constituency. They asked randomly if people were aware of the candidates running for MP here in Embakasi south. Our candidature was either mentioned first or second in every person’s list.

We are now on the second schedule of the plan, today we raise funds for purposes of strengthening our campaign operations as we launch our Embakasi South transformative agenda. We are not ignorant of the fact that the nature of our politics is tribal, neither are ignorant of the culture of our politics where big money and empty sound bites easily sway our voters. We are facing this facts heads on.We knew from the word go, that our candidature will be weak on funds because youth candidates are disadvantaged of resources, but we knew that our candidature will be strong on ideas, strong in passion, courage and truth, strong from our previous achievements and strong in inspirations because we will only seek to completely change the lives of our people. Individually, I do not have the wealth and may not even have the age but your support is sufficient.

To the words of President Barack Obama, the time we live in is not inherited from our forefathers; it is borrowed from our children. The future of this country rests squarely on the shoulders of us the youth. This generation is not burdened by a bad political history nor the tribal disease. In fact, most youth do not know their peers by their second names that brand them to a particular tribe; they only call each other by their first names beautified and shortened by the sheng slag. We will heavily invest in our youth, we will invest in the future, we will invest in the inspirations and the talents of our youth, we will invest in their political freedom, and we will create avenues for them to earn a living. The youth are no longer the leaders of tomorrow, they are leaders of today. We shall therefore be available to make decisions in issues that directly affect us. Our strong believe is, if we put our minds together and agree to move in a certain direction, nothing is impossible.

From this principle, we borrow our campaign slogan that says ‘Believe Together’. I hereby present myself for the leadership of the youth in this country. I will serve each an every youth in this nation, they will be the major beneficiaries of our manifesto but the priority will be given to those who are voters of Embakasi South.

This constituency comprises of Imara Daima, Kwa Ruben, Kwa Njenga, Kware and Pipeline wards with each having different challenges to overcome. We will build partnerships with local, national and international agencies lobbying for additional resources to supplement budgetary allocations. While unemployment is a major challenge that we will seek to tackle, we must wake up to the facts that white collar jobs are in the decline if not totally exhausted. It’s the responsibility of government to ensure growth and diversify the economy to support new employment tiers. We must come up with other job creation tactics to close up on the gap of unemployment.

Personally, I come from a rare profession, the intellectual and creative industry. This is an industry with the potential of creating five million jobs for our youth instantly, if it is given the attention it deserves. When we started a revolution for the music industry, we saw there was a problem that no one was willing to come forward and speak about it, no one was willing to give a solution but when we moved to address it everybody followed us along. This encouragement from musicians gave me hope and strength to press on and achieve more. For Embakasi South, we will create a strong youth economy through the arts and sports for the rest to copy.

It is important to mention that we will stand with equality for all regardless of their tribe, political affiliations, gender, social status, age or economic empowerment. We will put money in our people’s pockets to ensure that they can afford basic needs like Food, Housing, Education and even health care anywhere, both in public and private hospitals among others.

We have identified ten key pillars against which our performance should be judged come 2022 when we announce our next political move. These are:
We will work with religious organizations to train, fund and give business to fifty youth and women groups to the tune of KES 1million each in every budget cycle in a revolutionary business expansion and facilitation program. We choose youth and women because they are the people deeply impacted by poverty in this country.
We will build and equip the largest theatre and arts centre in Kenya with a 5,000 to 6,000 seats capacity in Mukuru Kwa Njenga. This will stimulate the development of talents in our slums. We will initiate and fund exchange programs with developed creative economies including Hollywood to ensure that our art is to the international standards.

We will rehabilitate and upgrade Ruben stadium to the national standards. We will install Fence, Seats, lighting, grass and tracks. We seek to ensure that people who come to watch different games in this stadium pay at least fifty shillings to enable youth who play the games earn a living. The fact is, Our youths have capacity to compete with the world in athletics, decathlons and ball games. We shall partner with governmental and non-governmental sporting organizations to expose our local talent to competitions with champions in other parts of the country and beyond.
We will ensure that our landlords are issued with Title deeds. They have owned land in these slums for over 50years and they have no title deeds. This program will catalyze other developments around our flagship projects and housing.

We will provide Internet for all. We wish to establish at least two hotspots per government budget cycle per ward. This is to ensure more and more of our people connect to fast internet for free.

We will Enhance TVET education and training. We will build and equip a state of the art TVC with courses that will directly impact the success our people putting our slum youth under a revolutionary bursary scheme in this TVC. We seek to provide incentives for tutors working in TVET institutions. An educated population is the best insurance against communal hunger, poverty and disease. We shall also establish local, national and international scholarships to educate our children locally and abroad.

We will connect the slums of mukuru kwa njenga and mukuru kwa Ruben which are separated by Nairobi river building good bridges on strategic points. We seek to Improve our access roads to ensure 80% accessibility especially during rainy seasons. This will open up businesses to opportunities and to our homes to comfort.

PWDs and elderly people shall be taken care under a revolutionary health and social security program called Equal Abilities while we support their families as well. We will emphases on the importance of the family values, good leadership and governance, patriotism, constitutionalism, integrity and national cohesion while we set up structures to discourage pre-marital sex, prostitution, pornography and unnecessary abortion.

We will provide sufficient storage tanks at the highest point in imara daima ward. This water can serve Imara daima, Pipeline, Kware, and Njenga wards effectively. We will seek to install public water kiosks which will be managed by our youth and women groups. This will serve as an alternative to Nairobi water pipeline which sometimes run dry. Provision of water will go a big way to ensure the heath of our people. We will also ensure proper dranage system in mukuru kwa njenga and mukuru kwa ruben.

We hold the view that a healthy population is the cornerstone of a wealthy nation. We will set aside 10% of the CDF budget to ensure that every citizen in Embakasi south can access quality health in this constituency. We will also source for funds to build a new level 4 hospital Within Embakasi South and upgrade the existing health facilities by 2020.

Thank you and God Bless.
