Lady Maureen has died after long illness

The Queen of Ohangla music, Lady Maureen has died on the morning of Saturday, July 11, 2020, after battling a long illness that saw her being hospitalized for months.

Lady Maureen’s family confirmed her passing revealing that she had died in Uriri in Migori County.

Lady Maureen has been a powerful musical figure who was adored by fans and politicians alike and she was known for sending sweet positive messages through he Ohangla music.

She was also adored and known personally by politicians at a personal level, especially politicians from Nyanza province.

Former Prime Minister and the leader of ODM and NASA, Raila Odinga mourned the death of the musician and consoled the family.

“My condolences go out to the family, friends, and fans of Lady Maureen. Achieng’ was immensely talented and very dynamic; always adapting to new trends in a very competitive music industry. May she rest in eternal peace,” he tweeted.

Earlier on this year, Margaret Akinyi who is the mother of the popular Ohangla artiste Lady Maureen called out fake friends for deserting her daughter during her time of need.

“For the past year, I’ve not seen any friend mwenye alikuwa anakula nao Blueband huko Nairobi. Wanasemanga kibaya ndio inabakia mzazi, na mimi ndiye nimebakia naye,” Akinyi said.

She added: “Her health has improved compared to five days ago. She was weak, couldn’t walk or eat, but now she can.”

Margaret Akinyi also cautioned prospering artistes to always invest and if they can, to learn from her daughter’s mistake and not squander their fortune.

“Remember where you came from and your parents as well. If God blesses you, don’t squander your money with strangers or rather people who don’t advise you to invest, because when you go broke, they all run away and it is us, parents, who suffer, especially if you get sick just like my daughter’s case,” she told Word Is.

“There’s no true friend like Jesus Christ. He will never desert you when everyone else does. Niko na uchungu mwingi kwa sababu sina mali yoyote mtoto wangu ameniachia.”

She went on: “When they are doing well, they don’t remember those back home, but when life changes for the worse, they become a burden to parents.”

Her demise comes a few days after yet another Ohangla celebrated musician, Abenny Jachinga real name Benard Onyango Obonyo passed away on June 11, 2020. Jachinga was buried in private by police officers on June 13 after mourners caused chaos at his burial and even exhumed his body prior.

Luo benga musician, Omondi Long’Lilo has died

Another celebrated Ohangla musician Omondi Long’lilo real name Erick Omondi Odit also died a few days after Jachinga’s passing.

In a span of two months, three Ohangla musicians, Abenny Jachinga, Omondi Long’Lilo, and now the Ohangla queen, Lady Maureen have died.
