Former Harambee Stars player McDonald Mariga was among the 16 hopefuls who were interviewed on Monday September 2nd by Jubilee National Elections Board (NEB) for the party ticket to participate in the November 7th Kibra constituency by-election.

Mariga was handpicked to fly Jubilee party’s flag in the Kibra by-election. He will face ANC’s Eliud Owalo, Ford Kenya’s Khamisi Butichi and an ODM candidate who will win the party’s primary this coming Saturday.

The decision to hand Mariga the Jubilee party ticket on a silver platter has sparked speculations that the footballer is William Ruto’s project being used to shake Raila Odinga’s Kibra stronghold.

Boniface Mwangi is among those who have raised a red flag on Mariga’s candidacy. On his part, the Rights Activist argues that Mariga’s contribution to the Kenyan youth is getting them addicted to gambling.

Mariga featured on Betin commercial alongside Joey Muthengi. Boniface also says that residents of Starehe and Langata constituencies are suffering because they elected socialites like Mariga to parliament.

“Kibra people, learn from Starehe and Langata voters. They decided to elect socialites and they’re now suffering. Mariga’s contribution to the Kenyan youth was to get them addicted to gambling. He has billboards across Kenya promoting betting. Don’t send such a person to parliament. BE wise,” wrote Boniface Mwangi.

Boniface Mwangi instead supports none other than Editar Ochieng and he gave out enough reasons why he thinks she’s the best candidate for the job.

According to Boniface Mwangi, Mtetezi Editar Ochieng is just perfect to be the next Member of Parliament for Kibra with his reasons being;

1. Proud feminist and activist
2. Founder of Kibra young women network
3. In 2018 was nominated as the upcoming human rights defender of the year by @DefendersKE
4. Editar has mentored and trained more than 1000 young people in Kibera.
