Former Machakos Senator and current United Democratic Alliance(UDA) Chairman has officially announced his interest in vying for the Machakos Gubernatorial seat in 2022 under the UDA Party ticket.
The outspoken politician says that he is going to change Machakos County for the better and intends to put his efforts in making sure that he thoroughly implements the Physical Planning Act in the entire Machakos County if he’s elected as the next Governor of Machakos after Dr. Alfred Mutua’s tenure ends in 2022.
Muthama believes that his business acumen and leadership skills will help him offer better plans for everyone in Machakos County implementing the Bottom-up economic approach that the UDA Political party is proposing to implement once they become successful in becoming the next government.
“Physical Planning is an area (among others) that MY Governorship will seek to improve in Machakos County. I will ensure plans help our town plot owners to anticipate needs, coordinate efforts, and determine a path for OUR a future,” Muthama’s official statement read in part.
He went on to add that his government will be able to promote the welfare of current and future Machakos County residents by creating an environment that is perfect for everybody and every and achieving his ultimate goal of urban planning that will enhance the livelihood, prosperity and equity for every single Machakos resident.
“I will seek to achieve a goal of urban planning for all to enhance livability, prosperity, and equity and promote the welfare of current and future town residents by creating an environment that is healthful, equitable, efficient, convenient, and attractive. This will also give meaning and value to the planning profession,” the statement continued.
This is Johnson Muthama’s full statement on what he intends to do once he becomes the second Governor of Machakos County once he gets elected, that’s why he is asking for your votes as early as now.
He wrote;
“_MY VISION ON MACHAKOS COUNTY PHYSICAL PLANNING_
Physical Planning Act is one of the acts overlooked in management of towns in Machakos County and in Kenya as a whole. This Act provides rules for physical planning and establishes Physical Planning Liaison Committees, provides for the appointment of the Director of Physical Planning, requires Counties to adopt Physical Development Plans and provides for control of development and subdivision of land.
Despite a long history of urban planning, towns in Machakos County among other towns in Kenya are characterized by informality, uncoordinated development, urban sprawl, and congestion. Government documents and reports acknowledge that, despite planning, no deliberate effort has been made to implement plans.
Apart from Machakos town and Athi River the rest of our towns are just conglomeration of unplanned concrete structures. This is evident in Tala, Kathiani, Joska, Oldonyo Sabuk, Kangundo, Machakos town, Masii, Athi River, Mlolongo, Matuu, Mwala, Mbiuni, Kivaa, Mutituni, Joska, Nguluni, Mbiuni, Kivaa, Donyo, Masii, Kaewa, kithimani, Katangi, kawethei, kyumbi, Kithyoko, Masinga, Yathui, Vyulya, Wamunyu, Mitaboni, Kyevaluki, Kola, Syanthi, Kakuyuni, kyasioni, Kwale, Kenol, Muthesya, Sofia etc. Besides, all these towns are characterized by congestion in markets where traders use road reserves to sell their wares. Parking lots are also squeezed despite the county having land for expansion.
Major impediments of planning in our towns include politics and vested interests, financial, legal regime, institutional setup, land tenure, and poor quality of the plans given out by our technical experts. But Im offering hope in MY Governorship in 2022.
