Dr. Alfred Mutua explained why the promised City of Machakos project never came to fruition

Dr. Alfred Mutua has disclosed why his dream of building the modern city of Machakos didn’t come to fruition after he launched the project back in 2013.

Speaking on Thursday, April 2021, the Machakos Governor said the project didn’t go further because of the National Land Commission (NLC) and then-Senator Johnson Muthama.

The project had serious investors in it who wanted a piece of the pie and they were more than ready and willing to invest over KShs. 2.1 Trillion into the project.

If the project could have been successful, it would have created over 500,000 jobs in Kenya.

The project was officially unveiled back in 2013 where it was launched officially in November 2013 in Machakos County. President of the Republic Uhuru Kenyatta was in attendance.

Dr. Alfred Mutua blamed the NLC and then-Machakos Senator Johnston Muthama who moved to court over the project.

An injunction was given for six long years that lead to the project collapsing, this project would have seen modern hospitals, and other state-of-the-art businesses and investments come to Kenya through the project.

Thanks to the six years injunction, all the investors –who couldn’t wait for that long– had to move to other countries including Rwanda, and South Africa to find worthy projects to invest in.

“In 2013, we had investors coming in with Sh2.1 Trillion to start a new city, hospitals and provide over half a million jobs.

The National Land Commission with its bureaucracy and then-Senator of Machakos Muthama went to court and there was an injunction for 6 years, so we couldn’t move to allocate land and get the investors coming here.

Those investors got tired of waiting, they went to Rwanda, South Arica, and elsewhere. What is happening today, we are suffering as a country because we’d have had superb hospitals and things put up but Judiciary was very slow,” Governor Dr. Alfred Mutua said.
