Barely 24 hours after the passing of veteran Nigerian actor John Okafor aka Mr Ibu, his family members are individually jostling to benefit from his property.

The veteran actor’s adopted daughter Jasmine was quick to take control of the actor’s personal TikTok account which has over 1 million followers.

Jasmine changed Mr Ibu’s TikTok account to her own name.

A check on the late actor’s Tiktok page on Sunday revealed that the account has now been renamed to @LadyJasminec_live.

Jasmine also appeared to have deleted all the late actor’s videos except the ones featuring her.

The development has sparked uproar on social media, with fans of the late actor berating Jasmine for tampering with his legacy.

Mr Ibu died on Saturday night March 2, 2024, weeks after being discharged from hospital following successful surgeries that led to amputation of one of his legs.

The President of the Actors Guild of Nigeria, Dr Emeka Rollas, who confirmed his death, said he died of cardiac arrest

“Mr Ibu suffered cardiac arrest according to his manager for 24 years Mr Don Single Nwuzor. I announce with deep sense of grief that Mr Ibu didn’t make it. May his soul rest in peace,” Rollas said.

Even before Mr Ibu’s death, his family was already fighting each other over money donated by well-wishers to cater for his treatment.

Mr Ibu’s wife Stella Maris accused the actor’s second son Daniel and his adopted daughter Jasmine of being lovers, claiming the two intended to use the funds donated for Mr. Ibu’s surgery to relocate as a couple to the UK.

The actor’s wife insisted that her stepson and her adopted daughter were planning to secretly marry, and relocate to the UK as a couple in December 2023.

Amidst these revelations, she emphasized her commitment to living with her husband and their children.

The family turmoil has led to an unusual living situation, with Mrs. Ibu asserting that she is the sole occupant of Mr. Ibu’s house.

She also claims that other family members have moved out due to the house condition. The root cause of the family discord appears to be Mrs Ibu’s request for an account statement, prompting accusations and counter-accusations among family members.
