Controversial singer William Getumbe has broken his silence after the Kenya Film Classification Board (KFCB) warning and the termination of his song.

KFCB ordered the pulling down of unrated and inappropriate content circulating on diverse media platforms including Embarambamba’s song ‘Nko Uchi’.

In a statement, KFCB said that artistes Chris Embarambamba and William Getumbe’s latest songs have violated the Films and Stage Plays Act.

Getumbe’s ‘Yesu Ninyandue’ was ultimately pulled down from YouTube after a public outcry from Kenyans who found the song’s lyrics to be vulgar and perceived it as a mockery of Christianity.

Speaking in a recent interview with a local publisher, Getumbe said that the song was taken down after three individuals flagged it due to copyright infringement.

He also revealed that his YouTube channel had been reported, and its termination was temporarily on hold.

Getumbe expressed his frustration, arguing that he invested in the song’s production and believed that he was making use of his freedom of expression.

“My song has been pulled down because some people claimed its ownership. I’m so disappointed because I had invested my money. I will appeal and move to court to defend myself because everyone is attacking me,” he said.

The controversial musician had brushed off pressure from KFCB and other sources to delete the song from his YouTube channel or social media accounts.

He vowed to take legal action against KFCB if the song was removed without his consent.

Regarding the alleged blasphemy, Getumbe maintained that his controversial song was a positive one.
