Organizers of Bongo Music Awards 2022 – Millennium Stars Entertainment – were forced to remove Diamond Platnumz’s name from all categories that he had been nominated in.
Diamond himself asked for his name to be removed from the 2022 Bongo Music awards nomination list after clashing with award organizers.
Millennium Stars Entertainment in a letter confirmed that Diamond through his management asked Bongo Music awards to remove his name from the nomination list.
Diamond in his letter indicated that he would be so busy he won’t be able to find time to participate in the awards due to his tight schedule.
“Kampuni ya Millennium Stars Entertainment inayoratibu Tuzo Za Bongo Music Awards imepokea barua kutoka kwa kampuni ya Wasafi Limited uliopendekea kuondolewa kwenye mchakato wa tuzo za Bongo Music Awards kwa msanii Diamond Platnumz kutokana na kuwa na ratibu ngumi itakayomzuia kupata muda wa kutosha kushiriki katika mchakato wa Tuzo za Bongo Music Awards 2022.
(The Millennium Stars Entertainment company that organizes the Bongo Music Awards has received a letter from the company Wasafi Limited which suggested that the artist Diamond Platnumz be removed from the Bongo Music Awards process due to having a tight schedule that will prevent him from getting enough time to participate in the Bongo Music Awards process. Millennium Stars Entertainment were left with no choice but to remove Diamond’s name from all the categories he had been nominated in.
“Kwa maana hiyo tutamuondoa msanii Diamond Platnumz kwenye Category zote alizokuwa amependekezwa muda wowote kuanzia sasa. Tunaomba radhi kwa changamoto yoyote itakayojitokeza kwa mashabiki wa msanii Diamond Platnumz.
( For that reason we will remove the artist Diamond Platnumz from all the categories he was nominated for any time from now. We apologize for any challenge that will arise for fans of the artist Diamond Platnumz),” the letter added.
On March 29, 2022, the Tanzanian Singer skipped the Tanzania Music Awards(TMA) saying he was focused on international awards after all Wasafi artistes including himself were not nominated for the award.
He noted that winning an international award would open doors for other Tanzanian singers to be recognized in the global market.
Diamond Platnumz was also not happy with the act of being nominated to compete for local awards against artists who are not even close to his level.
Speaking in London in April 2022 where he was promoting his new EP First Of All (FOA), Diamond said he didn’t have faith in local award organizers in Tanzania.

“(I still have no faith in the current award shows. Tanzanian award shows died when they failed to honour me. I deserved the awards but they gave them to someone else. I need to take my time to observe the new shows to see if they are authentic or not),” Diamond Platnumz said during an interview with BBC Swahili.
