United Democratic Alliance (UDA) party, which is associated with Deputy President William Ruto, has suffered humiliating defeats in both Kabuchai and Matungu by-elections.

Ruto aggressively sought to make in-roads in Western Kenya politics but Musalia Mudavadi and Moses Wetangula managed to ward him off.

Ford Kenya’s Wetangula cemented his dominance in Bungoma politics with a decisive win in Kabuchai.

Ford Kenya’s Joseph Majimbo Kalasinga is now the MP-elect of Kabuchai Constituency after trouncing seven other candidates in the hotly contested mini poll.

Kalasinga garnered 19,274 votes which represent 65% of the total votes cast. His closet challenger Evans Kakai of the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) got 6,455 votes representing 22%.

In Kakamega county, Mudavadi reigned supreme after ANC party candidate Peter Nabulindo won the Matungu by-election beating 14 other aspirants.

Nabulindo garnered 14,260 votes trouncing his closest challenger, David Were of Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) who got 10,565 votes.

UDA candidate came a distant third with 5,513 votes while Independent candidate Bernard Wakoli came in fourth with 1,536.

Despite the loses in Western Kenya, Ruto’s UDA managed to win its first elective seat in London ward by-election in Nakuru county.

UDA candidate Anthony Nzuki got 1,707 votes in the London ward by-election that was initially marred with violence and claims of bribery.

Jubilee Party’s Francis Njoroge was second with 1,385 votes after the tally of all the polling stations had been transmitted.
