“This is nonsense, taka taka kusema kweli” Cate Rira calls out Bahati, and Boondocks Gang over new song ‘Taniua’

Radio presenter, media personality and a Kenyan music enthusiast have had enough of Kenya’s mediocrity when it comes to putting out mainstream music.

Cate Rira has called out Bahati and Boondocks Gangs on their collaborative record dubbed ‘Taniua’ for releasing trash music and she’s not afraid to call out everyone else who supports trash and mediocre music even fellow radio presenters.

The presenter recently took to social media to voice her opinion on the latest offering gospel artiste Bahati released together with secular Gengetone maestro Boondocks Gang.

“Bahati first of all, this is a bunch of nonsense kwangu, hii ni takataka kusema ukweli. I have no better word, if you feel bad, take it up with someone else” Cate Rira said in part, of course out of her passion for Kenyan music.

Cate Rira went on to explain that she indeed loves the newfound genre in the country, Gengetone but she doesn’t understand why people are supporting mediocre music just because it’s trending on YouTube.

“I don’t have a problem with Gengetone, no, I don’t. It is good I love it. I dance to their music.”

Cate Rira said in part.

Cate Rira who didn’t spare anyone in the music industry making the Kenyan music industry look bad went on to say;

“I will tell our industry this, and I will say it with so much passion, the reason as to why our industry (music industry) will never grow is because we allow mediocrity.” Adding, “When you don’t use effort to bring out something or to even speak the real gospel, now that’s some trash.”

Cate Rira didn’t shy away calling out fellow presenters and even record producers for allowing songs like Bahati’s ‘Taniua’ that features Boondocks Gang to even get played.

Cate Rira has said that she will indeed call Bahati on her show on radio and ask him why he can put out a mediocre song like ’Taniua’ and thinks it’s okay for the song to get airplay.

At the time of this article, Bahati and/or members of Gengetone has not responded to Cate Rira calling them out for putting out a “mediocre song” as she puts it.

Cate Rira went on to say;

“Now let me tell you where we presenters go wrong. I’m gonna call out some people. And I know y’all are gonna promote this. Why we go wrong is that, oh! because the song is trending, let’s put it on blast. Let me tell you something, other industries do not allow mediocrity to be announced everywhere.

Where we go wrong is that we allow mediocrity to surface everywhere and we think it’s okay. And, presenters go wrong, I know Mambo Mseto will promote it. I know people like Jalas will promote it and by the way shame on you for doing that. You know why you’re the reason as to why our industry won’t grow.

If something is mediocre, stop elevating it. I wanna call Bahati for an interview here, he tells me why he’s doing [expletive] like this and thinks it’s good to broadcast. And then again, my problem also comes with producers, why are you allowing mediocrity to be here?  Let’s not allow mediocrity. We want our industry to grow, let’s reduce the mediocrity,” she added.
