“Police under the command of Mwesigwa Frank of counter-terrorism police has violently broken into Hon Kyagulanyi’s car and arrested him at Luuka District headquarter grounds,” a tweet from Bobi Wine’s Twitter account read.

The information on Wine’s Twitter account also indicates that the Kyadondo East MP is being detained at an infamous Nabukenya torture house in Jinja.

“Upon reaching Jinja, Hon Kyagulanyi has been detained at the famous Nabukenya torture house. The price of freedom is high but we shall certainly overcome,” the tweet reads.

Bobi Wine is seeking to unseat president Yoweri Museveni in the forthcoming January 14th 2021 general election.

Wine and members of his party National Unity Platform (NUP) have been routinely frustrated with arbitrary arrests and other forms of intimidation.

Bobi Wine’s arrest comes after the Inspector General of Police Martin Okoth Ochola warned presidential candidate against defying Electoral guidelines in a bid to prevent further spread of Covid-19.

Police accused Bobi Wine of having more than 200 supporters against recommendations by Electoral Commission to contain further spread of Covid-19.
