There’s no denying and/or any argument/s whatsoever when it comes to female rappers representing and dominating the rap game this year.

Female rappers have proved tremendously in 2019 that they also want a piece of the rap’s pie which is heavily dominated by male rappers.

This year alone, many talented female rappers have dominated the hip hop realm by being prolific, consistent, and powerfully authoritative through their music thus taking the Kenyan rap scene to the next level while at it.

The Kenyan rap scene is getting somewhat interesting by the minute every single day especially since the female rappers decided to demand their piece of the rap’s pie and helping put the Kenyan hip hop music on an international pedestal and continuing to release more mainstream hit records.

Below is the list of the top prolific female rappers that have been holding down the rap game in 2019 thus far in no particular order.

Muthoni Drummer Queen

Muthoni Drummer Queen released one of the baddest rap albums Kenya has ever seen late last year dubbed ‘She’ that will forever immortalize the Kenyan hip hop scene since it was one of a kind album plus the reception of the project was tremendous.

Muthoni Drummer Queen is just on a league of her own, apart from being eloquent, well learned and a business magnate, she is also an established prolific artiste especially after she released one of the fiercest 12-tracks rap albums Kenya has ever seen in a very long time.

Even though the last project she released was last year, most of her songs off the ‘She’ album are still going hard to this day and if you haven’t streamed the phenomenal album, I beseech you to go on ahead and stream the album, it might as well change your life and help you perceive the world in a whole new light.

Fena Gitu

Fena Gitu took over the rap scene and owned it ever since she made a name for herself.

Fena Gitu is almost in every hit rap song which got released in 2019 alone.

Fena Gitu in 2019 alone has worked with Khaligraph Jones, Njugush, Nyashinski, Naiboi, Jua Cali, Dufla, and still continues to fill up her pockets from other business ventures apart from music since she has signed numerous lucrative brand ambassadorship gigs like Marini Naturals, Smirnoff Kenya just to mention but a few.

Fena Gitu has represented the rap scene with such a force that can’t be overlooked or assumed, whenever you talk about talented rappers in Kenya both female and male rappers, Fena Gitu has to be a part of that conversation because if she isn’t, then you’d be lying both to yourself and to your audience.

Fena Gitu is one talented rapper that most aspiring female rappers want to become when they grow up.

She has most certainly made a point that Kenyan music can pay and she has done it in style and most definitely, the year 2019 has been one of her best years thus far.

Petra

If there has ever been a year that showed Petra’s diverse prolificness in the music industry is 2019.

Petra released a refix of dancehall hit record earlier this year dubbed ‘Bruk Out’ originally performed by Gage dubbed ‘Good P*s*y Gyal Fi Get Tings’ and she absolutely killed the dancehall beat and spat as if she were a Jamaican.

Petra went on to work with Ommy Dimpoz on the ‘One and Only’ which sees her singing letting her fans know that she can sing as well not only rap.

Clearly, evidently, Petra is a multi-talented queen when it comes to music generally, not only in rap music.

Petra is always working on a project even if she has a new project out and her new song ‘Pepea’ with respected Tanzanian rapper, Joh Makini only proves how talented, versatile and prolific Petra really is the game.

Kenya is really proud to have Petra as a rap artiste in the hip hop realm.

Maandy

Maandy got to release her highly anticipated album this year dubbed ‘Kabaya’ which opened enough doors for her but not the mainstream one. It’s safe to say that she is the underground queen of rap today just the way Wakadinali are the male kings of underground rap music.

Maandy who is the only rapper on this list to publicly call out Femi One by releasing a reply record dubbed ‘Punguza Pupa’ after Femi One called out all-female rappers who believed they were legit enough to stand up to her.

2019 has been rather an interesting one for Maandy because she finally got to make a name for herself as a bona fide rapper who deserves to have the big pie of hip hop Kenya has to offer.

So far the Dagoretti native has released the visuals for ‘Kabaya’, ‘Wikipedia’, and ‘Energy’ both off her debut album ‘Kabaya’.

2019 is most definitely taking over the hip hop scene and making the rap scene even more competitive for her colleagues in the rap game.

From the looks of things, Maandy is just starting out to cause some major ripples in the local hip hop scene, and in a matter of short time, she’s going to own it with such authority that can’t be overlooked even by her haters.

Bey T

Bey T isn’t one rapper that most of your favorite musicians would like to mess up with, she doesn’t leave any survivors behind when you try to call her out, she went in on Tanasha Donna and she bodied Diamond Platnumz’s girlfriend without any apologies whatsoever.

The rapper who has since gone on to work with the best rappers in the game like Jovie Jovv, Khaligraph Jones, and gotten featured on the same track together with Silverstone Barz, Chiwawa, Khaligraph Jones, Breeder Lw, and Rekles.

Just to show and prove how hardworking Bey T has been in 2019 alone, she has released more than 5 music videos of records she did alone without counting on tracks she has been featured on.

In 2019 alone, Bey T has released ‘If They Dunno’, ’25Flow’ featuring Prxnce, ‘Don to the donna’, ‘Wololo’, ‘Nineteen’, and ‘Just Admit It’.

Monski

This list wouldn’t be complete without having Monski on it, Monski is one rapper that will make you go out and look for more of her projects once you get to listen to any of her releases, either the ones she has dropped or the ones she has gotten featured on.

Monski has had a very busy 2019 which has seen her working with Muki Rai, Oksyde, Katapilla, Tunji, Sinistra, Trabolee, Manif3sto, Xenia Manasseh on different projects.

Monski is also one of the few, talented artistes selected by Mr Eazi’s team for the empowerment project dubbed ‘#emPawa100’ which seeks to empower 100 artistes from Africa.

Steph

Steph is one gifted rapper that actually stands on whatever it is she raps about and loves to keep it real with her fans from the get-go. She tells it the way it is whatever the issue she might be addressing, she doesn’t sugarcoat anything at all.

Apart from being a great rapper who is starting to take mainstream rap seriously releasing her debut record dubbed ‘Papaya Dreams’ bringing out Maingi Muzik this year, Steph is a very patriotic Kenyan who once represented Kenya to the fullest in one of the most epic cyphers you have seen yet dubbed ‘RapUp Cypher’ which saw her going head to head with King.V from South Africa, K.O from Sierra Leone, SK. Level from Nigeria and Proxane from Zambia.

Since Steph has decided to take rap very serious, am worried sick of all the rappers because she’s bringing a new unique style in the rap game and she’s not apologetic in what she does whatsoever.

The beautiful, confident and talented Steph has since released her second record dubbed ‘For EA Girls’ featuring Touri$t and she is not stopping anytime soon since she is prepping up to release her debut EP dubbed ‘Change’ which she promised it’s going to be a one of a kind project.

Stella Mwangi

Stella Mwangi who doesn’t need any introduction whatsoever deserves all the accolades coming her way for the great work she has been doing across the globe through hip hop for putting Kenya on the map by every project she puts out.

This year alone even saw her getting a major shout out from Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson.

It’s been a great year for Stella Mwangi who also inspired her little sister to be a rapper.

She made history just the other day by being the first Kenyan rapper to have recorded a song for an international game company, Ubisoft for their Just Dance 2020 with her ‘MA ITŪ’ hit record.

Stella Mwangi has indeed represented Kenyan rap scene internationally for years, not only this year alone, she has been consistent enough over the years achieving greater things each year than the last one.

The Kenyan hip hop scene and the entire music industry will be forever indebted for her and what she has done for the Kenyan music industry and taking the Kenyan rap music to the international scene.

The most important thing about Stella Mwangi is her humble nature, she has her records getting played in American TV shows, she now has a song in one of the highly ranked video games companies on the planet and she also has her records getting played in Italian radio stations but she’s always humble and doesn’t forget where she comes from, that’s why she raps in four languages; Swahili, English, Kikuyu and Norwagian languages.

Dyana Cods

It’s safe to say that 2019 is the year of Dyana Cods, a rap’s protege who is currently under the mentorship of Wakadinali who debuted her on the mainstream success she is currently enjoying as a rapper today on their hit record dubbed ‘Morio Anzeza’.

Dyana Cods having being raised in the harsh realities of Nairobi’s Eastlands area, she’s as hard as the hardest person you would find in Eastlands.

She is the only rapper who went in on the top female rappers in the country in 2019 without the mentioned rappers called out responding to her.

That must have earned her an OG status for sure.

Dyana Cods also dropped one unforgettable freestyle yet on radio at Homeboyz which saw her spit one of the heaviest, powerful lyrics any rapper has ever spat live on radio, and am talking in both genders, not just female rappers alone.

Silverstone Barz

Silverstone Barz absolutely bodied her verse at Khaligraph Jones’ ‘Khali Cartel 3’ and made a name for herself as one of the youngest, female rap’s proteges Kenya has seen in a very long time.

Silverstone Barz has been in the music industry for not so long and she has already made a name for herself and it’s only a matter of time before she takes over the entertainment industry altogether.

She recently worked with Dyana Cods on her latest record dubbed ‘For Real’ fresh out of working with King Kaka on his ‘Round 3’ hit record.

Silverstone Barz lives to her name because she can actually spit some barz that has great metaphors and rhymes.

Vallerie Muthoni is one rapper who socially-conscious releasing records shunning community vices that most people usually go through each and every day like her record ‘End Rape Culture’ off her 2018 project, THE Wavey Soul.

In 2019, Vallerie Muthoni pretty much the music industry especially with her 2019’s project dubbed ‘Pisces SZN’ which has nothing but hit records especially with the ‘Spicy SZN’ hit record featuring Taio and Le RU that has all Kenyans dancing to her rhythm being on the project.

With complete, established, versatile artistes like Vallerie Muthoni who shuns the idea of being identified as a one-genre artiste, the Kenyan music scene is most definitely in safe hands.

Femi One

Femi One doesn’t need any introductions in the rap game today, she just doesn’t.
