legendary South African musician Hugh Masekela dies aged 78

Bra Hugh, Hugh Masekela passed on due to prostate cancer. His classic, Grazing In The Grass topped the Billboard Hot 100. He was the first African male Grammy nominee (1968). He won the Lifetime Achievement Award at the CHOMVA, Ghana Music Awards, Jazz FM Awards and MAMAs.

In 1954 Father Trevor Huddleston gave Bra Hugh Masekela his first trumpet from Louis Armstrong & asked Uncle Sauda to teach him basics, the rest became a colourful history… A legend through and through.

Mr Masekela was an Ubuntu Awards winner in 2015’s “Ubuntu Arts & Culture Award (Veteran)” category. Hugh Masekela was 14 when he started playing the trumpet. The 78-year-old legend has made Jazz beautiful. Thank you and RIP Bra Hugh Masekela.
