Kenyan scriptwriter and filmmaker Abel Mutua, fondly known as Mkurugenzi, has shared a touching family moment that quickly resonated with fans online.
As his daughter Stephanie Mumbua celebrated her 16th birthday, Mutua marked the milestone by finally delivering on a long-held promise — giving her her first driving lesson. Rather than opting for an elaborate celebration, the award-winning storyteller chose a meaningful experience that symbolised growth, trust, and independence.
Short video clips shared by his wife, Judy Nyawira, showed Stephanie confidently seated behind the wheel as she carefully drove along a quiet road, guided calmly by her father. The lesson had clearly been planned well in advance, with the birthday serving as the perfect moment to make it happen.
A Promise Fulfilled
According to Judy, the driving session was the highlight of the day and something Stephanie had been eagerly anticipating.
“This was the highlight of her birthday today. Daddy had promised her her first driving lesson once she turned 16… and he delivered,” she wrote in the caption.
Filmed from the back seat, the video captured an intimate and wholesome exchange, with Mutua patiently instructing his daughter on how to control the car.
