He was the humble architect behind the billion-shilling empires of some of Africa’s biggest music stars, but in his final moments, Teacher Allen was a man alone.

Allen Sadiki Ngonyani, the legendary English tutor who famously mentored Bongo Flava icons Diamond Platnumz, Harmonize, and Rayvanny, was buried in a shallow grave at Ungindoni Cemetery in Kigamboni on Monday.

But while the stars he polished into international gems were busy with their jet-set lifestyles, the man who gave them the linguistic tools to conquer the world was lowered into the earth without a single one of them in attendance.

Teacher Allen’s impact on the East African music scene cannot be overstated. Before the multi-million dollar deals and global tours, he was the man in the classroom, patiently teaching the “Bongo Kings” how to navigate the English-speaking world.

He is widely credited with being the “secret weapon” that allowed stars like Diamond Platnumz to transition from local talent to global brands.

Yet, as his body was wrapped in a simple white cloth according to Islamic tradition, the front rows were noticeably empty of the millionaires he helped create.

The final days of the mentor were a far cry from the glitz and glamour of the Wasafi or Konde Gang headquarters.

Teacher Allen passed away on Sunday, March 15, 2026, at Geza Hospital after a harrowing three-day battle with complications from high blood pressure.

His nephew, Iddi Salum, revealed the heartbreaking reality that the man who shaped so many lives had no wife or children of his own to hold his hand.

“Uncle was seriously ill… I personally took care of him, feeding him and attending to his needs,” Salum revealed in an emotional tribute.

“The doctors said his heart had become fragile and failing. When I visited him, he tried to show hope, but I could see he had completely run out of strength.”

The absence of Diamond, Harmonize, and Rayvanny has sparked a wave of fury among the local community in Dar es Salaam.

While the family coordinated with relatives from across the country to ensure all customary rites were observed, the “Big Three” of Bongo Flava were conspicuous by their silence.

For a man who spent his life ensuring his students could stand on the world stage, his own final stage was a quiet affair, attended only by family, a few former students, and well-wishers.

As the sun set over the Kigamboni cemetery, the man who gave Tanzania’s stars their “English tongue” was left to rest in peace—a tragic reminder that in the world of fame, loyalty is often the one lesson that goes unlearned.
