He was at the centre of one of Kenya’s most sensational death investigations, but DJ Fatxo is proving that his career is far from over.
The embattled Mugithi star has officially landed a major international booking in Kampala, Uganda, marking a significant return to the spotlight following the ‘dark cloud’ of the Jeff Mwathi death drama that gripped the nation.
Fatxo is set to take the stage at the ‘Wakilisha 254 – Mataa Mpaka Chee Vol. 2.0’ event on April 11, 2026—a massive cultural festival aimed at bringing the ‘Kenyan vibe’ to the heart of the +256.
The gig at the Kampala Rock Gardens on Speke Road represents a bold comeback for the artist, real name Lawrence Njuguna.
For much of late 2023 and 2024, Fatxo’s name was rarely out of the headlines for his music.
Instead, he was the focus of a high-profile investigation into the tragic death of 23-year-old Jeff Mwathi, who fell from the DJ’s 10th-floor apartment in Nairobi.
Though the Director of Public Prosecutions eventually cleared the DJ of wrongdoing due to a lack of evidence, the “social media trial” left his reputation in tatters.

Now, it seems the Ugandan market is ready to welcome the Mugithi maestro back with open arms.
Fatxo won’t be heading to the Speke Road venue alone. He is part of an elite “Kenyan Invasion” force designed to showcase the best of the 254’s culture.
Joining him is the legendary DJ Pierra Makena, widely regarded as Kenya’s most successful female deejay and a powerhouse of the decks.
Also on the bill is Wanjiru wa Waya, the siren of Kikuyu music who is famed for blending traditional melodies with modern Afro-pop and high-energy Mugithi sounds.
Organisers Athera Empire Events told Mbu that the mission is simple: “Bringing the Kenyan vibe and music to Uganda and showcasing Kenyan culture.”

To ensure the Kenyan diaspora in Kampala feels right at home, the event is pulling out all the stops.
Ugandan radio personality The Only Jaluo will serve as the master of ceremonies, guiding revellers through a night of “old school” folk songs and acoustic sets.
With “surprise performances” still under wraps and a Swahili-loving nation ready to party, the event is set to be the ultimate test of DJ Fatxo’s staying power in the East African entertainment scene.
