Journalist Willis Raburu has opened up about why he resigned from his job at Citizen TV where he used to earn a six-figure salary.
Raburu quit his job at Royal Media last month after 13 years, leaving many of his fans heartbroken.
In an interview with Mark Masai, Raburu said he stayed all those years because he liked the work environment at Royal Media.
“I was loyal to Royal Media. It was the culture of the organization. My colleagues were great and I liked how the company worked with their open door policy,” he said.
“In the period that I have been there, I have done different things between conflict stories, political, human interest. I started doing digital consulting for companies. I realized that I never rested, I needed to rest. I just wanted to do something new, and relax. I’m about to finish my Master’s degree at USIU and that made me expand my mind,” Raburu added.
Raburu noted that he wanted to be a journalist since ever since he was young.
“I had told my mother and aunt that I would read the news because it was the only thing that made my father ‘shut up.’ despite how powerful he was at the time.”
Raburu says he would miss family events due to the nature of his job until people stopped inviting him.
Now he says he can focus on spending more time with his family.
