Will Smith then walked up to the “Everybody Hates Chris” creator on stage and smacked him in front of millions of viewers.

Subsequently, Smith was banned from attending the Academy Awards for 10 years.

Pinkett Smith looked back on the incident with the outlet, crediting Will Smith‘s Oscars slap for saving the their broken marriage.

The Daytime Emmy-winning talk show host and actress opened up in an interview with the Daily Mail about how her husband’s infamous slap during the 2022 Academy Awards helped her realize that they will always be together.

“After all those years trying to figure out if I would leave Will’s side, it took that slap for me to see I will never leave him,” Pinkett Smith told the Daily Mail. “Who knows where our relationship would be if that hadn’t happened?”

In October 2023, Jada Pinkett dropped the bombshell on her marriage with Will Smith during media interview, revealing that they have been living completely separate lives since 2016.

The 52-year-old actress and her 55-year-old husband have been married since 1997. Pinkett however said they are not legally divorced.

Their marriage has come under scrutiny during the period she says they have been apart.

The couple’s children are tired of the constant eyes watching their parents and would like some privacy for their family according to a source who spoke to Entertainment Tonight.
