Wakadinali emerge as the only Kenyan musicians on Spotify’s top streamed list 2023

Wakadinali flew the Kenyan flag high on Spotify’s list of most streamed artistes as they emerged on the same list with heavyweights like Chris Brown, Drake, Burna Boy and others.

The hip hop group was featured as the sole Kenyan artistes in Spotify’s top streamed list, landing at number eight in the inaugural report Wrapped 2023.

Wakadinali also emerged as the most searched artistes in Kenya on Spotify, and their album ‘Ndani ya Cockpit 3’ ranks number 10 as the most streamed album.

The top 10 most streamed artistes in Kenya in 2023 are Drake, Burna Boy, 21 Savage, Ayra Starr, Chris Brown, Travis Scott, Wakadinali, The Weeknd, Metro Boomin and Future, respectively.

“The Kenyan music scene has grown exponentially since our last Wrapped, and it is refreshing to see a Kenyan artist in the top streamed list,” Spotify SSA’s Head of Music Phiona Okumu said.

In terms of top 10 local artistes, excluding foreign musicians, the likes of Bien, Nyashinki Otile Brown made the cut.

The top 10 most streamed local musicians on Spotify in 2o23 include; Wakadinali, Sauti Sol, Bien, Bensoul, Nyashinski, Nviiri The Storyteller, Buruklyn Boyz, Otile Brown, Nikita Kering’ and Lilmaina in that order.

The most streamed Kenyan songs include Sauti Sol’s Lil Mama, Bien’s Inauma, Bien and DJ Edu’s Too Easy, Nikita Kering’s Last Name, Fully Focus and Bien’s Dimension and Bien’s My Baby (feat. Ayra Starr).

In podcasts, the top three of the top streamed podcasts in Kenya are all female-led, including So This Is Love, The Messy In Between and It’s Related, I Promise.
