top 10 Kenyan female rappers in the music industry in 2015 thus far

9 mins read

Do you remember the days that all we could hear was Poxy Presha (May his soul rest in peace) and the famous Hip Hop group Kalamashaka but no female MCs gracing our airwaves? Well, those days are long gone because the one and only Nazizi came along and changed all that by her debut and hit record, ‘MAMA’ which got a warm reception by all of us and THAT record paved the way for female artistes to get recognized as serious competition in a male dominated industry.

Well, thanks to her now we can say we have lots of beautiful, female, dope rappers in Kenya, and the list is finally here.

Njeri

Well, she is the new kid on the block right now but causing major “music earthquakes” -if you know what i mean- with her debut track, “Nduta” which really introduces us to her new flow of Rap which surprisingly has some Urban beat.

I would personally like to introduce Njeri to you because she really going to be the next EVE of Africa. She is currently working on a project with her fellow dope female rapper, Sugar.

Noti Flow

Well, if you are a keen follower of Kenya’s Hip Hop industry, You definitely know who she is, she needs no introduction.

She has her own style of rap and she actually knows her sh*t and she is pretty and ratchet in the same measure, if you wanna see the raunchiness with ratchet on top of it that you used to see in Lil Kim, then she is the rapper you need to favorite

Damn! She is fine as hell!! No wonder her fellow rapper husband, Kenrazy can’t and probably won’t let her go. Well she is the number 1 lady in Ghiphuka (a dialect of Hip Hop) and she’s definitely killing it in the industry.

Her song “SURA YA KAZI” is doing good right now and you ought to see the classy video and listen to the lyrics for yourself and KNOW she is the number 1 in her own right.

Petra

Well, for all of y’all #TeamMafisi just know she is married, so that means you can drool all you want but you can’t TOUCH. I just thought I’d let you know she’s someone’s wife because she is pretty and a eye candy to many, I admit even to me.

Back to the music though, you probably have seen her in the hit song “Ligi Soo” the remix by Rabbit where he featured A lister artistes in Kenya, she did a verse there. If you need to know more about her, listen to her track, “MKALI WAO” and know why she definitely qualify to be in this list.

She definitely knows knows how to flow with any beat placed before her, she too was in the “Ligi Soo” remix alongside Petra and she nailed it, yeah she NAILED it to the core that you just need to listen her verse to believe me.

Her dope verses are so dope that I can’t stress enough how dope they are, just listen to her hit record “MAUMBILE” and you’ll find out.

Muthoni The Drummer Queeen

“Nai ni ya Nani, Ni ya Nani, ni ya Who?” this is the lady who started a Movement in Kenya, that’s how huge she is in the country. Well she is a multi talented rapper who runs her own entertainment venture; “Blankets and Wine” plus she is a drummer and a singer as well, she got it all.

Her beauty is to die for. She is one of the few female artistes that revolutionalized Hip Hop music in the country, so thank you for that MDQ. She has an album out by the way and it is DOPE!

 Xtatic

She is considered to be the future of Hip Hop in Africa. Yeah she is good, really good and she even got international accolades but few people know her in the country but then again, not every prophet is accepted and/or known in their own country.

The way she flows through the beat is so soothing you just wish the song to never stop. She even have a song with Ugandan sensational female rapper Keko,

She recently just lost a mother, so our belated condolences are with her

Wangechi

She just recovered from a horrible, horrible car accident and came back with a force that even the great Chinese wall can’t hold. She came back after being away from the entertainment business for a minute with a dope illustrative song called “Cardiac Arrest”.

The song is dope and she is one of the finest female artiste right now and after her debut in the “Ligi Soo” remix( yeah, she was in the remix too) she has kept the consistency in the music industry.

Stella Mwangi

She hails from Norway but born in Kenya, she has helped in putting Kenya in the Hip Hop’s map by doing collaborations with international artistes like Mohombi(Swedish-Congolese) and she is still doing her thing still that deserves international recognition, actually I don’t know why she isn’t recognized internationally  like Nikki Minaj does because if you ask me, if anything, she deserves that recognition.

Nazizi

She is known as “the First Lady” and she is the one who started all this in the first place  by her releasing her first hit single, “MAMA” which helped us believe that there is something that women can do that we didn’t think it exist. She is a rapper, Dancehall artiste and Reggea artiste as well and one half of the group Necessary Noise where initially it had three members; Nazizi, Wyre and Bamzigi but now it just comprised of Wyre with herself.

We really can’t put her In a box and say that she is a rapper alone, No, that we cannot, she is trinity: three in one and she delivers so good in all of the genres that I can’t say where she kills it the most. So, hail the Queen “First Lady” Nazizi.

I love everybody who loves everybody, somebody got to love somebody at some point.
Music is something that comes natural to everybody and it's a language that everybody can understand, I understand it and that's why I speak it
fluently, do you.
