Tina Kaggia finds herself jobless as SportPesa closes its operations in Kenya

Tina Kaggia was among over 400 employees that were laid off after betting company SportPesa shut down its operations in Kenya.

SportPesa closed operations in Kenya in the wake of a tax dispute with the government. The betting company had been embroiled in a three month dispute with the government.

The Kenyan government withdrew licences of 15 betting firms it claimed were not paying taxes as required. SportPesa and Betin’s licences were never renewed even as other betting companies like Betway and Mozzart got their licences back.

SportPesa was forced to fire 400 employees as it closed operations in Kenya. Tina Kaggia was among SportPesa’s employees who were laid off.

Tina joined SportPesa after quitting her radio career.  She quit Classic FM sometimes in December 2016 before joining 1FM in 2017 and subsequently joined SportPesa a year later.
