Former Churchill Show comedienne Nasra Yusuf broke up with her Coasterian husband director Rashid after five years of marriage.

Nasra lamented that she lost everything because of a marriage that she was trying so hard to save, lamenting that she received a lot of criticism from the Somali community for marrying a man from the Coast.

“So yes I am single…Anyone that knows me, knows that I fought for that relationship.

I lost touch with family because of it, I lost myself and my career because of it, I lost friends because of it, I got constant criticism from my community because of it but I was still willing to make it work even though the roots of our problems were the same year in year out for 5 years,” Nasra wrote in part in a post on social media while announcing her breakup with Rashid.

Speaking during a recent interview with Nairobi News, Nasra said that she fought to be with Rashid even though her Somali community strongly opposed their marriage.

“Nilikuwa nampenda tu. That’s all I can say. Ile genuinely because he was from a different background than me, yeye ni Mcoast, mimi ni Msomali. Watu wangu walileta noma like why I’m I getting married to someone who is not from my culture nini nini, but I still stood for him and chose him and for things to end the way they ended, inachoma,” she said.

Nasra also shared she felt bad because now people in her clan will use her marriage as an example to caution girls who may want to marry outside their culture.

She further narrated how Rashid and her started dating and eventually got married.

“We had been together for four years, kama tunadate tu. We were best friends, tumekuwa through all that and of course being Muslim, lazima for you guys to enjoy your relationship even more, you have to be married. So that is why we took it to the next step,” Nasra said.

She also talked about the issues that arose in their marriage that eventually caused their breakup.

“We had been having the same issues, over and over. Hata tukidate, the same issues zilikuwa zinarudia. Nilikuwa nishaziona hizi sitasurvive nazo but juu nakupenda, wacha tu niolewe, afadhali tuwachanie mbele. I had seen all those things zilikuwa zinakisarisha but still he is a good person but vitu zinaniuma ni deal breakers,” Nasra said.

Nasra noted that if Rashid had worked on those issues they would still be together.

“Let him change for the next woman now, I’ve done my part…Niko soko mbaya but not ready to mingle at all,” she said.
