Stevo Simple Boy, self-styled as the ‘President of the weak’, has opened up about his reasons for not participating in the recent Gen Z youth protests that began two weeks ago, despite identifying himself as their defender.
The rapper clarified that his absence from the protests against Finance Bill 2024 was not intentional but rather due to an obstacle faced by many residents who use the Thika Highway to access Nairobi.
Earlier reports indicated that Stevo had relocated from Kibera to the Kasarani area.
On the day of the protest on June 18, 2024, which saw numerous artists joining the youth in solidarity, Stevo had every intention of participating.
However, police had blocked Thika Road, preventing more people from reaching the city center.
“First, let me say that as the President of the weak, last week we were blocked by the police here on Thika Road. That act caused problems, and I decided to get out of the car to inform my fellow Kenyans that I, as the President of the weak, was stopped on the road and could not reach the city,” Stevo explained.
He defended the Gen Z protesters, stating that they were merely exercising their constitutional rights by demanding justice and fairness.
Addressing a video where he suggested that President Ruto should meet with him, Stevo Simple Boy said, “I would like President Ruto to invite me for a meeting and discussion. As the president of the nation, he should meet with me, the president of the weak, so that we can find solutions together—what we can offer to Kenyans and what the president wants to achieve.”
Stevo emphasized that while he is not a member of Gen Z, his efforts are aimed at helping them voice their concerns and grievances to the national leadership.
