Former Mombasa governor Ali Hassan Joho has reportedly left ODM party and resign as the party’s deputy leader.

Many Kenyans view this as a let down and abandoning Raila Odinga at a time when Azimio la Umoji movement is planning for opposition against President Ruto’s Kenya Kwanza regime.

Kenyans have reacted to the yet-to-be-confirmed news with shock and dismay

Journalist Muganda Clay says, “Joho resigning as deputy boss of a party not in power is the smallest thing at a time the party in power, or rather the government of Kenya has been forced by a foreign country that hasn’t even reached adolescence to work with a firm associated with, nay, owned by, Joho family!”

“Joho is joining Kenya Kwanza to save his. Sinking Empire at the coast and along Mombasa road.” adds Rasto Junior.

“Joho had to resign for his family business to thrive.” claims Francis Shivelenje.

“Governor Ali Hassan Joho resigns from Odm,I guess he’s joining the president and UDA party very soon.” asserts one MC Kim.

“Joho leaving Baba tells you there are no permanent friendships.” notes a tweep named Kidd Eazi.

The South Sudanese government compelled President William Ruto’s administration to support a company connected to the family of former Mombasa Governor Ali Hassan Joho, to handle freight from the Mombasa port traveling via the standard gauge railway to the neighboring nation.

The lucrative agreement that sees Autoport Freight Terminals Limited handle all South Sudan imports at its Nairobi Freight Terminal was pushed by South Sudan, which persuaded Kenya to endorse it.

It is reported that this is an element of the agreement, that saw Kenya overturn an order from September restricting the clearance of cargo and related operations to the Port of Mombasa.

According to a letter accessed by the Business Daily, the ministry has told Kenya Ports Authority (KPA) and Kenya Railways that Autoport Freight Terminals Limited will remain to be the sole handler of South Sudan cargo.

These are some of the reasons Kenyans believe have made the coast politician dump Raila Odinga and the ODM party. Official communication on his resignation has not been released by both parties.

Will Joho eventually join UDA from ODM?

Your guess is as good as you think!

It’s not a question anymore, but a matter of how soon!
