Veteran Tanzanian singer Joseph Haule alias Professor Jay has been ailing for a while, he has been admitted to hospital for close to a month now.

Professor Jay’s situation was highlighted by rapper Ambwene Yessayah aka AY who took to social media to appeal to the public to support the ailing singer whose hospital bill was ballooning.

Sharing on his socials, AY says Professor Jay has been ailing for a while, he however confirmed that he was responding to treatment.

“Our brother has been unwell for three weeks and is under treatment at Muhimbili hospital,” said AY on social media.

AY adds that Professor Jay is spending Tsh4 million (Ksh200,000) a week on medical expenses and is in need of financial support.

“The family is yet to formally ask for help in this matter. But it is our responsibility to help because he is our colleague and one of us having entertained us for more than two decades,” said AY.

Jay served as MP(Member of Parliament) for the Mikumi constituency between 2015 to 2020, he however lost to his opponent Denis Lazaro of the ruling party Chama Cha Mapinduzi (CCM) in the previous general elections that saw yet another renowned Tanzanian rapper Mwana FA elected.

Despite being a member of the opposition party Chadema, President Samia Suluhu’s government has pledged support for the ailing musician.

The Secretary-General of the Ministry of Culture, Arts and Sports Dr. Hassan Abbas said the Government is with Professor Jay after visiting him in Muhimbili National Hospital.

“It was a joy (though sad because you are still in bed) when I visited you today and saw you surrounded by specialist doctors who our country has had to continue with treatment and they make sure without any constraints you continue to recover, the Government is with you in every step of your treatment,” said Abbas.
