How Piny Luo Cultural extravaganza went down in Homa Bay (Photos)

Piny Luo Cultural extravaganza brought together the four Nyanza counties of Kisumu, Siaya, Homa Bay and Migori through a socio-cultural exchange.

Luo kingpin Raila Odinga, Homa Bay Governor Gladys Wanga, Siaya Governor James Orengo, Migori County Ochillo Ayacko, Kisumu Deputy Governor Dr. Mathews Owili representing Prof. Anyang Nyongo attended the the 2-day Piny Luo cultural extravaganza that was held in Homabay County.

Several other elected leaders, MPs, Woman Reps, MCAs from the region were also in-attendance.

Mombasa governor Abdulswamad Sheriff Nassir, Likoni MP Mishi Mboko, Kisauni MP Rashid Bedzimba, Jomvu MP Bady Twalib were among the invited guests at the Luo cultural exchange.

From boat races on Lake Victoria, traditional wrestling to Tero Buru, Homa Bay was alive with different activities that took place during the 2-day Piny Luo Cultural extravaganza.

The popular traditional Tero Buru, which in Luo means casting of evil spirits, was a spectacle. This normally happens in forests and on the shores of rivers, lakes or sea.

The solemnity of interdenominational prayers culminated with the unveiling of Odungi Randa as the new Ker (Luo traditional leader).

Most of the sporting activities pitied teams from Migori, Homabay, Kisumu and Siaya Counties.

The highlight of the day was an exciting exhibition match between Gor Mahia FC and Luo United.

Raila Odinga commissioned various projects in Homa Bay before joining football fans for an entertaining match at the Raila Odinga Stadium in the heart of Homa Bay town.

During other events, Odinga wore shorts, embracing the vibrant atmosphere of the occasion.

Piny Luo Cultural extravaganza envisioned to ignite the spirit of productivity, resourcefulness and togetherness in the people.

“Piny Luo” is a Luo phrase that translates to “Luo Village” or “Luo Home.” The Luo people are an ethnic group predominantly residing in the Nyanza region of Kenya, particularly around Lake Victoria. They have a rich cultural heritage, known for their music, dance, traditional attire, and vibrant traditions.

The 2-day extravaganza was a showpiece like no other that showcased the Luo culture.
