Nikita Kering’ has done it again and this time she’s done at it with elegance finesse during the annual Afrima Awards show in Lagos, Nigeria.
The first time she ever won the coveted African Awards was back in 2019 when she was a 16-year-old R&B prospect making her the youngest winner in the history of Afrima Awards.
In 2019, she won in two categories; ‘Best Female Artist in Eastern Africa’ and ‘Revelation of the African Continent’.
She was nominated in three categories back in 2019 in;
1. Best Female Artist in Eastern Africa.
2. Revelation of the African Continent.
3. Songwriter of the Year in Africa.
In this year’s Afrima 2021, she won in two categories as well; ‘Best Female Artist in Eastern Africa’, and ‘Best Artist, Duo or Group in African RnB & Soul’.
In the ‘Best Artist, Duo or Group in African RnB & Soul’ category, Nikita Kering’ had to beat the talented lot of Aya Nakamura[and Stormzy], Adenkule Gold[and Lucky Daye], Djodje, Elaine, Gyakie [and Omah Lay], Oxlade, Tems, ‘T’neeya, Wizkid[and Tems) to win in the category with her ‘Ex’ hit song.
In the ‘Best Female Artist in Eastern Africa’ category, the ‘Ex’ hitmaker had to beat Karun, Afrie, Merry Zerabruk, Nandy, Rema Namakula, DJ Harold, Chike, Rosa Ree, Spice Diana, Zuchu and Xenia Manasseh to win the award.
This win makes Nikita Kering’ the first Kenyan woman to have won the ‘Best Female Artist in East Africa’ category twice and the only East African artiste to have won the Afrima Awards 4 times thus far.
Her hit song dubbed ‘Ex’ has enabled her to win the coveted trophy making her one of the best artistes to represent Kenya in the annual coveted award show this year.
Nikita Kering’ is representing Kenya through her music outside the country and she hasn’t released a full album yet, she’s recently released an EP.
