Nonini spoke about the challenges of raising his son in America where homosexuality is legal and people change their genders as they please.

Speaking during an interview with Mwafreeka on the Iko Nini podcast, Nonini narrated how he was culture shocked when he moved to the US in 2021.

He spoke about life in the United States and highlighted some of the unique differences between the country and Kenya.

Nonini opened up about one of the most surprising things he witnessed as he revealed that his son’s best friend at school is a transgender child.

“America is tough. Like my son, his best friend at school is now a girl. I don’t know if I am being understood, that is his best friend,” Nonini said.

He revealed that his son’s friend was born a boy but eventually changed to a girl after talking to his parents about it.

“I asked him, ‘is this a girl or a boy?” He tells me it’s upside down and then he turned around. I asked him if he told me that he changed himself, he told me (his friend) told his parents that he wanted to be a girl,” Nonini explained.

The rapper noted that all procedures to change his son’s friend to a girl have already been done and now he identifies as a girl.

“His name is always a boy’s. I ask him (his son) why he is called that. He tells me it’s a boy but it turned out to be a girl,” he said.

Nonini said that her son also confirmed to him that the friend he is with in the 6th grade was the one who made the decision to change his gender.

The musician talked about the gender change while stressing the need for parents to be in their children’s lives, especially in the United States where the child meets many people with different ways of life.
