Nairobi Governor, Mike Mbuvi Sonko is currently under the Nairobi County Assembly’s radar, especially after Hon. Alvin Palapala, an MCA for Kitisuru Ward came forward with proof of the Governor using public resources for personal use and/or gain.
“Primrose and Saumu went to New York and in my statement, I have attached all the evidence to ascertain that the two used Ksh. 2.4 Million tax-payers’ money in this trip contrary to the law,” Kitusuru MCA Alvin Palapala told the Media.
Mike Sonko’s wife, Mrs. Primrose Mwelu Nyamu and daughter, Ms. Saumu Agnes Mbuvi are currently getting investigated over allegations of spending Ksh.2.4 million which belonged to the Nairobi County on their trip to New York in 2018.

Speaker Beatrice Elachi gave the Budget and Public Accounts Committee up to Wednesday to present a report over the matter.
“Honourable members this matter is serious and has seen the documents and the money that was allegedly spent was on the executive side. The PAC and budget committee do your investigations and report back to the assembly next week Wednesday but I also want to warn that the president’s name should not be drugged into these matters,” Speaker Beatrice Elachi said.
Mike Sonko’s response
Over the years, Mike Sonko has always been keen on making sure that he has a way to always back his story up and making sure that his story is usually up to par and by always being honest as he can be.
Taking to Facebook to address the issue that he confessed he learned about it just the other day, the Nairobi Governor opened up saying that he actually used his own money, from his pockets to cater for transport, accommodation and any other related costs.
“…I personally catered for the transport, accommodation and related costs for both my wife and daughter.” Sonko said in part.
Mike Sonko also made it clear that the mentioned trip in question was actually sanctioned by the Head of Public Service, Dr. Joseph Kinyua.
“There is no objection for Mrs. Primrose Mwelu Nyamu and Ms. Saumi Agnes Mbuvi to be included as part of the Kenyan delegation to travel to New York, USA, to attend the 62nd Session of the Commission on the Status of Women(CSW) 2018, scheduled to take place from 12th to 23rd March, 2018.” a letter that was approved by the Head of the Public Service, Joseph K. Kinyua, EGH read in part.
Mike Sonko shared the letter on social media.
“First, I wish to clarify that her inclusion, and that of my daughter, in the said trip were sanctioned by none other than the Head of Public Service, Dr. Joseph Kinyua. As such, she was entitled to a fully-funded trip by the Nairobi City County government, like any other delegate, to attend the 62nd Session of the Commission on the Status of Women (CSW 2018).” Mike Sonko explained his position.
Receipts of the money he spent personally for his wife and daughter
The Nairobi Governor went on to call out Kitisuru MCA, Hon. Alvin Palapala and challenged him to provide any proof of per diems that his wife or daughter spent using Nairobi County’s money.

“It is therefore preposterous and ignorant for the said Member of the Nairobi City County Assembly to make allegations that he cannot prove. If anything, I would like to challenge him to provide any proof of payment of per diem to either my wife or daughter.” Mike Sonko continued.
Calling for Hon. Alvin Palapala’s probe
Mike Sonko went on to accuse the Kitusuru MCA of stealing bursary funds that were meant for orphans and disadvantage children over the years stealing millions of shillings.
The Governor went on further to say that Hon. Alvin Palapala was transferring money to a company owned by his wife, Tabitha Luchesi called NR Talvo Limited.
“On the contrary, there is overwhelming evidence that Hon. Palapala has been leading from the front in stealing bursary funds meant for orphans and disadvantaged children. Over the years, Palapala has stolen millions of shillings that were fraudulently transferred to a company called NR Talvo Limited, registered and owned by none other than Tabitha Luchesi, his wife.” Mike Sonko went on.
The flashy Governor also went on to urge the Member of County Assembly to explain how millions of Shillings meant for bursaries found their way into their private bank accounts.
“I wish to urge the said MCA to focus on explaining to the people of Kitisuru, and Nairobi at large, how millions of shillings meant for bursaries found their way into the bank accounts of their private company, and refrain from creating unnecessary sideshows and theatrics that do not add value to his constituents or his predicaments.” Mike Sonko’s Facebook post concluded.
Mike Sonko also shared alleged copies of proof that indeed Kitisuru MCA, Alvin Palapala has indeed been transferring public money to private bank accounts.
