McDonald Mariga suffered a major setback after Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) refused to approve his candidature to vie for the Kibra parliamentary seat.

IEBC on Tuesday September 10th said that Mariga’s name does not appear in the voter register for Kibra constituency therefore he cannot contest in the November 7th by-elections.

Mariga, was accompanied to IEBC office by former Kakamega Senator Boni Khalwale, Lang’ata MP Nixon Korir and Anne Thumbi – nominated ward rep who is also late Kibra MP Ken Okoth’s baby mama, when IEBC denied him the nod to vie for the Kibra parliamentary seat.

Taking to Twitter after he was dealt the major blow by IEBC, Mariga assured his supporters that his name will be on the ballot paper regardless.

“Attempts to flip our intentions to run for Kibra Parliamentary race will flop big time. I urge all our supporters to remain calm and peaceful as we seek redress against this unacceptable move. We’ll hit back and we’ll hit hard this time around. Tutakuwa kwenye kinyang’anyiro,” Mariga tweeted.
